M3U or Xtream Codes? Which IPTV Login Suits Best
1 Min. reading time · Updated on October 7, 2026

When you receive your access data, you will usually see two variants: an M3U link or Xtream Codes (username, password, server). Both lead to the goal but differ in everyday use.
M3U Link
A M3U link points to a playlist with all channels. You simply paste it into the app. Advantage: fast and possible in almost every app. Disadvantage: Program guide, categories, and film library are separated less cleanly depending on the app, and very long playlists load slower.
Xtream Codes
Here you enter the username, password, and server URL. The app requests channels, the program guide, and the video library directly from the server. Advantage: usually faster loading, cleaner categories, EPG and VOD are better integrated. Disadvantage: You have to fill in three fields correctly.
Our Recommendation
If your app offers it, use Xtream Codes. Fall back on M3U if the app only supports this variant – this is the case, for example, with some Smart TV apps.
If it Doesn't Work
- Remove spaces at the beginning or end of the entry.
- Copy the server URL exactly, including
http://and port. - Read the error message: Fixing “Invalid Login”.
- More background in the IPTV Glossary.
Step-by-step setup: IPTV Smarters Pro and TiviMate.
